Review 81: Children of Time

Children of Time Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an excellent read. Slightly off-beat an exceedingly original, Tchaikovsky made the impossible possible, by making me relate to a spider. Being a part-time arachnophobe, this was all quite unsettling, but a testament to the author's skill as an author (though not thinking to long and hard about gigantic spiders also probably helped). The cast of characters is great, though the human characters might have been an little under developed compared to the arachnid ones. The plot however, was strong. Sufficient action pieces to keep you entertained, plenty of twists and upheavals and with techno-babble pretty much absent, the story felt grounded. Now if you'll excuse, I will check out the sequel, I need to see how my spider friends are doing.

Highly recommended.
