Fully realizing his work is just another drop in the bucket spilled out into the sea of wandering, weary and willing writers-to-be, he still holds hopes to someday be the next Hank Moody. With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene B. Sledge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a hell of a read and what a way to end the year. The honesty, clarity and no-nonsense attitude of the writer is amazing. In certain ways, this is better than a ''dry'' history book. It delves deep into the personal experience of those that were forced into combat and gives insights often overlooked.
