Review 49: The Sun Also Rises

The Sun Also Rises The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What's so good about Hemingway? Is it beyond my understanding? I won't say I did not like this book, because I did. I just took effort. Is that what literature is supposed to be like? I don't know. My problem with literature is often the lack of a goal or purpose for the characters. They just seem to live and that's that. They do things, go to work, drink and drink some more, have the occasional genital rumba, travel to some other country and then go back to whatever they were doing before. There is no growth of character, no conclusion or finale.

It's not bad, but what's the point?
