Review 57: Ancestral Night

Ancestral Night Ancestral Night by Elizabeth Bear
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This was a disappointment. Oh, and Ms. Bear desperately needs an editor.

So what's the problem? A sampling:

- The story never really takes off. There is no crescendo, no climax. It just plods on and then ends.
- The main character has an interesting backstory but is rather unbelievable. She undergoes something rather extreme, basically becomes a threat Nick Fury would have to call the Avengers for, yet she seems to think it's all a pretty normal day in the office.
- So. Much. Introspection. There is no action, no movement, just talking. And a lot of exposition.

The premise does not live up to the hype. Don't waste your time.
