My rating: 4 of 5 stars
You either like Bukowski or you don't. It's an ultimate cliché, but it rings true for this book, like any other book by this author. He doesn't write about anything grand, there is no higher theme or moral to be pursued. You either like his way of thinking (or at the very least, appreciate it) and thus like his writing or you think this book is a steaming pile of horseshit. Bukowski would not care either way. What can be said further about his writing style is that it's clear and to the point. He does not mince words but finds the space to insert humour or twist the mood of a paragraph on the turn of a phrase. It's this latter point which makes me give this book 4, rather than 3 stars.
